Cure for Cafe 36
A reader emailed me with the perfect solution to all the Fine Arts Center's problems:
Brent Beavers.
You remember Brent. He was the chef at Sencha. Not only is he a phenomenal cook, he also has a whimsical artistic streak, creating Literary Dinners that pair costumed book readings with multi-course themed meals.
Since losing Sencha and getting canned from the Metropolitain (he apparently was less than civil with his boss after being denied the health coverage he wanted), Brent has been doing the Literary Dinners as traveling gigs.
But what better place for him to land than the Fine Arts Center, where his creativity can become part of the larger fabric.
Hey, De Marsche, give him a call!

i'm thinkin' i heard Demarsche got canned by the fac board of directors last week...hard to call when you don't represent...Brent would be a good solution....he is very talented but does the facs' benefits match up??
I know there were some people on the board who didn't love De Marsche. But given that the guy brought unprecedented financial success to the institution and oversaw an remarkable $30 mil expansion, I doubt he got "canned."
Not sure what the FAC's benefits are, though it's a pertinent issue, given that it was a point of contention at the Metro. He wanted health coverage and Kimball was working to bring the restaurant into the black. It's amazing that this is an issue. The best chefs in town should get decent health benefits. Period. But you'd be amazed at how many don't.
