Snowbound repasts

Just got word that the Concept Restaurants - The Ritz Grill, MacKenzie’s Chop House, and Jose Muldoon’s - will open for lunch at 11 a.m. today.

Let me know if you've heard of other places braving the weather to feed us snowbound workers.

Or, as always, please leave your comments about recent visits to local restaurants and you could win our weekly movie-pass drawing.

Just went to Uwe's today for the first time for lunch. I had beening hearing rave reviews about this place since I moved to town. Well, perhaps today was an off day. I ordered the sauerbraten. On the menu it stated that it came with red cabbage and spatzle. When the plate came, there were no spatzle. I asked and was told that it came with potato dumplings. Okay, whatever. Well, I have been to a number of German restaurants both times that I have spent time in Germany and in Chicago and Milwaukee which have terrific German retsurants. Well, not so much at Uwe's. The saurbraten was edible. However, it did not have the depth or complexity of flavor that you can expect from a genuine saurbraten recipe. I will continue to look for a good German restaurant here in the Springs. Maggie

We just had a dinner of appetizer and dessert at MacKenzie's and had an outstanding waitress - Wendy. She watched over us without hovering and took very good care of us. The food as always at a Concept Restaurant was very good, but the service made it special.

I hope I posted this in the right place.

Jo anne, You did, indeed, post it in the right place. I love to hear those specific details about good and bad servers!

Maggie, sorry to hear about your bad experience at Uwe's... I've never been to Germany, but I can tell you that you'll have trouble finding better German food in the Springs. Next time, try the jaeger schnitzel.
